Trevor Noah: You Can Be Both Pro-Cop and Pro-Black – WATCH

trevor noah

On The Daily Show last night, Trevor Noah addressed the police shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, insisting that being ‘pro-black’ doesn’t mean that you also have to be anti-cop.

Noah highlighted the fact that, in America in particular, being for something means you’re automatically against something else. But that’s a false equivalency, Noah says.

Via Mediaite:

Noah reacted to the shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, saying, “If you’re pro-Black Lives Matter, you’re assumed to be anti-police. And if you’re pro-police, then you surely hate black people. It seems that it’s either pro-cop and anti-black or pro-black and anti-cop, when in reality, you can be pro-cop and pro-black.”

Noah went on to ask “why is a video never enough” when it comes to police shootings and said, “It’s hard to blame black people for not trusting the police in this country.”

Noah added, “You shouldn’t have to choose between the police and the citizens they are sworn to protect.”

Noah also addressed the news of the Dallas shootings targeting police officers in the aftermath of the Sterling / Castile shootings, writing on Twitter, “One step forward, ten steps back. The point is to save lives not trade places.” He later added, “We all seem to want the same thing and yet the only way we know how to get it is by taking it away from someone else.”
